I'm not sure if it's because:
- I'm sitting on the couch, reading or watching movies, and eating has become a habit.
- I cut too many calories in the day, so I'm famished at night.
- I'm bored/lonely/tired and end up "emotional" eating.
Whatever the cause, I need to find some way to handle it.
Any suggestions?

sadly, I cannot help since I suffer from the same issues. I try to leave room for the end of my day.
I went on the site that you recommended, then drove the route with my vehicle - that site was bang on. I'm just going to play with the pedometer settings till it gives me the right readout - then it should be good for routes that are on paths. Thanks for the tip!!
Hard to say. I sometimes just refuse to eat. Only works because I sometimes have really good willpower. Or I'm too lazy to get up.
You could try introducing more calories into your daytime eating. That might help.
I buy low calories, low fat or no fat juice bars - I don't know what to call them it is like Kool-aid in a long plastic tube. They only have about 35 calories per bar so even if you eat three you have only consumed 105 calories. I only have one and this is my evening treat each night.
I was looking for fitness blogs and came across your great site. I find myself having the same troubles as you. Some things I do to try to avoid nighttime noshing are to drink water instead or to brush my teeth whenever I have the urges! But it's hard. Best of luck to you!
Sorry to ‘spam’ you but I am holding a fun weight loss challenge over at my blog FatBlokeThin.

I think it is more of a habit than anything; your body gets used to that fix before bed, so when it doesn't get it, it is unhappy!
Drinking water helps at night. Also, eating something low-calorie like a salad or some veggies is a good idea if you can't resist eating before bed. Sugar-free candy is another great thing to have around when you are craving something!
No, but if you read my Blogs at all, you will see that for about 3 years now I have an awful habit of eating after dinner and even full-on binges late at nite. It is a habit I have struggled to break without permanent success.
I used to do this too...I make a cup of tea before bed and that seems to do the trick.
