Water

Everyone used to agree that 8 glasses of water is best for optimal health. But lately I've been hearing that it's all a myth. In fact, according to my favorite health guru Dr. Oz, we get plenty of water from food and other beverages. And drinking lots of water doesn't really make our skin any healthier or more supple!

Even though experts have been saying that the "8 glasses a day" is a myth, I still try and drink a lot of water. It's refreshing on a hot day, and it helps me rehydrate after I workout. I find that I am likely to get a headache on days when I don't drink much water.

There is one unfortunate side effect, though. I find myself running to the bathroom every hour or so! Some people say that this eventually stops as your body gets used to the extra water, but that's never happened for me. I always have to go, even if I've been drinking plenty of water for months. It's rather inconvenient at times, like at the movie theater or when I'm grocery shopping.

Nonetheless, I still tend to think it's better to try and drink those 8 glasses if possible.

What about you? Do you drink a lot of water?

I drink 1.5 to 2 liters of water a day, but most days, water is the only drink I have. I just keep a bottle or glass with me nearly at all times, and if I don't do it for a while, I can tell.

Your are probablly a bit healthier if you drink the 8 glasses of water a day. I have gotten in the habit of getting them in and when I don't I feel dehyrdated, and if I am working out I normally get in about 12 glases of water. Now that I am pregnant I am also needing more water so I have gotten use to the running to the bathroom every hour. You mean other people don't go pee on the hour?!?!?

I have a 20 oz water bottle I keep at my desk, truthfully, the days when I drink about 2 of those, I'm fine. If I go up to 3 refills (60 oz) I'm running to the bathroom all day.

It's a wierd thing.

I try to drink a lot of water, but don't always succeed. If I'm really low, I do get headaches, like you mentioned. I notice I do use the restroom more when I drink more, but nothing that's caused me any serious problems.
I think one of the good things about the 8 glasses a day goal isn't really the water part. It keeps us from drinking those sugary drinks, and keeps us from so eating too much. It's not so much the water itself as it is a healthier alternative to many of the things available to us today.
